Kicking off the summer right!

Just call me mom of the year. That's the title you get when you wait like 3 months to celebrate your child's birthday, right?? Poor Kaedon just now got a birthday celebration with his friends. He invited three of his buddies (that was all I had seatbelts for!) and we brought them home with us from school on Friday. They ate popsicles and swam non-stop, only taking breaks for slushies from Sonic, pizza and cupcakes. He is so lucky to have a great group of friends from school. They get along really well and it makes life easy for me! I basically got to sit around and watch the fun!

Olivia had a friend over as well, that helps keep her occupied. Evan had a great time eating popsicles and following the big kids around. They were all so sweet to him and a good time was had by all!

Spring bracelets and a new table topper!!

I made a few bracelets. I found the idea here. This one I made for Olivia. Someone needs to explain that it goes on her wrist.

I am such a big copy cat. I got this next idea on the same blog:

I did not really enjoy this project. By the time I sewed all of the ruffles, I was so sick of my crappy sewing machine that I actually hot glued them onto the runner!!! I got the CUTE glassware at TJ Maxx. I wasn't sure what to put in them. I was thinking candles, but my sis in law suggested jelly beans. What did I decide?

BOTH, of course!!

I have a new hobby...

and it is spray painting everything in sight! I painted a ton of stuff this weekend. But I only took before and after shots of a couple of them. I am so amazed by what a coat or two of spray paint will do! I spray painted my knife block black (try saying that 5 times fast). Now it just blends in with my countertop and backsplash instead of being an eyesore. I am so happy! I also repainted this heinous monkey tray:

Now it looks like this (please ignore the weird streakiness, I wiped it down with water and then was too impatient for it to totally dry before taking this picture):

Then, Kaedon brought home pretty Easter flowers for moi and I dug up this vase:

The orange made me feel pukey so I whipped out the white spray paint this time. I dug around in the craft drawer until I found a ribbon that made me happy and here is the result:

I love it and it makes me feel cheerful every time I go into the kitchen!

Mini-project

I am in the mood to redo some stuff! I decided to start small. Kaedon totally cleaned the garage out and in the process found this:


It is U-G-L-Y. It ain't got no alibi. I wasn't quite ready to throw it out, though. So I went to Hobby Lobby for these supplies:

Here is the finished product, which is perking up my kitchen counter as we speak.

Never done this before, but I'm sharing this at somewhat simple today.

My Version...

I spent about an hour in Hobby Lobby today. I decided to try my hand at recreating a couple of the wreaths that I loved. I made this one for Olivia's bedroom door:

It was so much fun that I may go back and get the materials to make boyish ones for the boys' bedroom doors.

I decided to try the easiest-looking wreaths for my front doors. Here's a picture. I love how they turned out. I have double front doors so I had to make two but only one is shown because you can see it better that way:

My favorite part is the strips of tattered looking lacey stuff that they are hanging from:

Easter Wreath

I have decided that I want to make, not buy, Easter wreaths for my front doors. I went looking for inspiration on etsy and here are my faves:

I'm going to Hobby Lobby tomorrow and I will post my sad version when I get done! Any opinions on which direction to go? I'm not totally delusional...I know I cannot make those feather wreaths. But they are so darn gorgeous!
